In 2012 Black Caviar became the highest ever internationally rated mare, while being currently named the world’s best sprinter [2] with her victories in the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Stakes followed by the 2013 Lightning Stakes and William Reid Stakes she moved to 24 straight wins and Randwick TJ Smith Stakes, to a new record of 25 wins from 25 starts.
It’s a modern era record for the most consecutive metropolitan victories [3] by a racehorse at the start of a career – a success record [4] not equalled for over 100 years. In November 2012, Black Caviar was named European Champion Sprinter [5] at the Cartier Racing Awards [6], becoming the first horse trained outside Europe to be so honoured.
Black Caviar’s stature in Australian racing has been further recognised with her induction into the Racing Hall of Fame. Bob Charley, chairman of Australian Racing Hall of Fame, said although it was not usually the policy of the committee to induct horses while they were still racing, Black Caviar was a deserved exception.
